About Amber — Putting power in your hands
The Amber team are firm believers in the power that everyday Aussies have to make a positive climate impact.
As an Aussie electricity retailer on a mission to help Australia reach 100% renewable energy, they believe that getting there means doing energy differently: empowering everyday energy consumers to use energy when there are more renewables in the grid, and letting solar, battery and EV owners get more value from putting green energy back into the grid too.
If the three million solar homes in Australia today got batteries and automated them to send excess energy to the grid at peak times, more than half of our energy demand could be met by renewable energy and we could displace fossil fuel power equivalent to 60 gas fired power stations.

Amber was founded by two Aussie mates, Chris Thompson and Dan Adams in December 2017, with the goal of shifting Australia to 100% renewable energy as fast as possible.
Chris is motivated by using new technologies to improve people’s lives and Dan is passionate about accelerating the renewable transition.
Prior to Amber, Chris worked in Iran running Bamilo, Iran’s largest online marketplace and before that was with the Boston Consulting Group. Dan spent the last 10 years working with Tesla, the Boston Consulting Group and building social movements around climate change.
Amber is owned by Chris, Dan, Amber's employees and their investors. Winner of the Governor of Victoria’s 2022 Start-Up of the Year award, Amber is also backed by Australia’s leading VCs (including Square Peg Capital and Main Sequence Ventures), impact-focused investors and individuals, and most recently by CommBank.
